Nomination Margaret Wadsworth Address : 6 Ash Grove, Carlisle, Postcode : CA3 9SQ Telephone : Email : megwad@gmail.com Nominated By: Full Name : Sue Kaveney Telephone : 07917 273884 Email : sue@kaveney-hr.co.uk IN WHAT CAPACITY DO YOU KNOW THE NOMINEE : Margaret is the Chair of the Royal British Legion Branch of which I am a member and volunteer. YOUR NOMINATION ACHIEVEMENTS, PERSONALITY & SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY & OVER WHAT PERIOD OF TIME? : In 2006, the two Royal British Legion Branches in Carlisle amalgamated to form the Carlisle and Stanwix Branch that we know today. Records show that in the year prior to that amalgamation, the 2 former Branches collectively raised about £38,000 for the annual Poppy Appeal in the Carlisle area. Margaret has been raising money for, and raising awareness of the Legion through their work at the Carlisle and Stanwix branch for the past 12 years. I would estimate it takes Margaret around 10 months every year – all voluntary! Margaret helps organise the regions Poppy Appeal which sees her distribute over 900 boxes of poppies each year, last year raising over £116,000. As well as fundraising Margaret visits schools and organisations to raise awareness of the Legion and the support it gives to the armed forces community. During her 12 years’ service, Carlisle and Stanwix Branch has raised over £1 million pounds. In 2017 Margaret and her husband Colin were jointly named Person of the Year in the The Cumberland News Community Heroes Awards for their outstanding contribution. Margaret was also awarded at the Pride of Britain awards this year receiving her prize from Sir Cliff Richards! Mrs Wadsworth is also Chairman of the Carlisle and Stanwix Branch and Chairman of the Women’s Section. In addition to their unstinting work for the Royal British Legion, Mrs Wadsworth is a key figure in the administration of her local parish office and church. The person I have nominated deserves to be considered for an invitation to the Cumbria Women of the Year Lunch because: : Not sure what else I can say other than above……………. but, Margaret is tireless in her efforts and takes time to recruit new volunteers, support exist ones as well as be interested in the local veterans and their families. She is an assuming, calm individual who will know doubt go mad at me for nominating her – but what she has done for our armed forces community now and for the future is phenomenal.
