Nomination Sarah Peel Address : Cool Crafting, 7 Stramongate, Kendal Postcode : LA94BH Telephone : 01539 724099 Email : info@coolcrafting.co.uk Nominated By: Full Name : Joanne Jones Telephone : 07887884409 Email : l.joanne.jones@hotmail.com IN WHAT CAPACITY DO YOU KNOW THE NOMINEE : Customer, and employee. YOUR NOMINATION ACHIEVEMENTS, PERSONALITY & SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY & OVER WHAT PERIOD OF TIME? : After running a fabric, wool and haberdashery shop in Kirkby Lonsdale and an earlier career in the fabric/clothing industry, Sarah moved her business to Kendal about 3 years ago, taking up residence in a beautiful listed building. She has publicly stated that she intentionally waited until there were no other traditional wool shops in Kendal, in order to ensure that she wouldnt affect another company's trade. This ethos is reflected in the ways she runs her business. She inspires people to be creative without any hard selling. Sarah created the award winning Luna Lapin, a beautiful soft toy which is sold as a kit. She has since added many other characters and is about to publish her 3rd book. Whilst the products are beautiful and encourage people to sew and be creative, the most positive outcome or legacy of these home sewn characters is the Luna family that has arisen, not just in the UK but worldwide. The person I have nominated deserves to be considered for an invitation to the Cumbria Women of the Year Lunch because: : Sarah has helped to revive traditional crafts with her store and online business. She treats every customer as a personal friend. With her highly regarded website she has reached out to people across the world. I have spoken to many of these customers and have come to realise how they are like a family, with a dedicated Facebook site. I look after many elderly people who have taken Luna Lapin to their hearts and rediscovered the joy of sewing. The online shop is easy for them to use and obtain supplies delivered to their homes. Sarah's eclectic shop is a delight to visit. There are few shoppers who don't use the words 'Aladdins Cave' when they first walk through the door. Aside from all the other aspects of her business, Sarah has created what she refers to as a Heirloom toy in Luna Lapin. I genuinely believe that there will be many lovingly hand crafted versions of these beautiful creatures that will become genuine heirlooms in years to come.
