Annette Gibbons

Cumbria Women of the Year 2006 Winner

Annette Gibbons is well known for her wonderful cooking and has become a real ambassador for Cumbria. Her recent Border television series called “Home Grown” has brought a great deal of publicity to local businesses as Annette lauded local producers of food and drink on air.   Alongside her television series she teaches nutrition and basic cooking in Cumbrian Adult Education Classes and in schools and also runs her own cookery school at her home on the Solway Coast.   Annette also organises gourmet tours of Cumbria called ‘Cumbria on a Plate’ where she introduces people from all parts of the world to the county’s landscape and cuisine.  A passionate supporter of the Slow Food Movement which promotes good, clean and fair food,  Annette herself works to re-educate and encourage people to care about the way their food is grown and prepared.

In addition to all of this, she is also an avid charity worker and provides her skills to fundraise for numerous charities.

Annette’s many attributes are now recognised with the award of Cumbria Woman of the Year 2006.
