Tina Walker

Cumbria Life –  Lifetime Achievement Award 2010 Winner

Born into a medical family, it was perhaps unsurprising that Tina Walker trained as a nurse.  A founder member of West Cumbria Hospice at Home enabling the terminally ill to have palliative care at home, Tina was quick to volunteer her services to a pilot project developing in the Eden Valley when she moved there, having married Myles Walker.    Tina’s knowledge and experience proved invaluable in establishing what we now know as Hospice at Home.  A true professional in a volunteering role, Tina is supportive of the other volunteers and the staff team whilst always ensuring that the Charity’s objectives are met.  Feisty yet pragmatic, Tina’s strategic thinking and forethought have underpinned the growth of Hospice at Home from modest beginnings into one of the County’s most esteemed charities; she is a brilliant organiser, vocal and eloquent and completely unfazed by the necessity to roll up her own sleeves and get on with whatever needs doing.  She has faced enormous personal challenges in terms of her own and Myles’ health, but nothing has ever dimmed her commitment or passion for Hospice at Home.
